Newton All Whites Secure Back-to-Back Victory with Gritty Win Against Chard

In a thrilling showdown dubbed as the “relegation battle,”

Rackerhayes witnessed an electrifying clash as the Newton All Whites faced off against Chard, with just two points separating the sides in the league standings.

Despite both teams triumphing over Burnham on Sea, considered the prime contender for the drop, the stakes were high as they battled it out on the field. The All Whites, plagued by a front row injury crisis, faced the daunting task of confronting Chard’s formidable pack.

However, the home team rallied with determination, making strategic adjustments upfront to bolster their confidence. Despite Chard’s early lead from a penalty, the All Whites showcased resilience, gradually gaining momentum.

Led by Newton’s tactical prowess, the All Whites launched a relentless offensive, culminating in a spectacular try by Brinkley, narrowing the gap to 5-6. Momentum shifted decisively when Pascoe intercepted a wayward cross kick, setting up Griffin for a sensational try, giving Newton a 12-6 lead at halftime.

The intensity surged in the second half as Monnington’s powerhouse charge set the stage for Davey’s lightning-fast try, extending Newton’s lead. However, Chard retaliated with a well-executed rolling maul try, keeping the match tightly contested at 11-17.

With fifteen minutes remaining, Newton dug deep, applying relentless pressure and securing crucial points from a scrum penalty, widening the margin to 20-11. Despite Chard’s resilience, they couldn’t breach Newton’s defence, sealing a vital victory for the home side.

The All Whites’ triumph not only marked a rare back-to-back win but also highlighted the depth of talent within their youthful squad, showcasing the club’s commitment to nurturing future stars.

In other news, the Newton All Whites 1st XV embark on a journey to Crediton with ten changes to the team, signalling a fresh chapter in their quest for success.
