Wadebridge Camels RFC vs Newton Abbot All Whites

20th September 2022

The All Whites returned from Cornwall empty handed on Saturday as another slow start gave them too much to do against a Wadebridge side who made use of their speedy backline and ran in three tries to Newton’s one.

Newton found themselves 13-0 down after 20 minutes but some strong defensive work and a couple of forays into the Wadebridge 22 meant the score remained at 13-0 at HT.

Turning round for the second half and with a couple of changes made, Newton were getting more front foot ball and enjoyed a spell of pressure on the Wadebridge line.  Strong home defence repelled the visitors attacks and a clearing kick downfield was eventually turned into a converted try meaning Newton had it all to do in the final quarter trailing 20-0.

The All Whites couldn’t be faulted for heart and effort and gave themselves a chance to get something from their trip over the Tamar when Max Wright, who began the game at 6 but was now out in the centres powered his way over the line from short range after a succession of pick and goes had been stopped.

No further scores from either team left Newton winless after the first three matches, none of which have been easy and goes to show that this league has already been a step up on the level the lads were playing at last season.

Newton Abbot All Whites will be hoping to get their first win of the campaign when they take on bottom of the table Bridgewater at home on Saturday.

Final Score: Wadebridge Camels 20 – Newton Abbot All Whites 5
