This means the Spartans will not only spend the season playing league rugby for the first time ever but for the first time in the history of Newton Abbot Rugby Club, we’re about to have two teams playing league rugby simultaneously!
We’re incredibly proud of the men at our club and can’t wait to see how this season plays out.
Kicking off the 2022 season, Sidmouth Rugby Club will host and provide the first test for the All Whites in their new league, The Regional 2 Tribute South West.
The first home match will see the boys face off with Truro Rugby Club, a competitive Cornwall favourite. The match is sure to be an entertaining return to the Westaway Sausages Pitch.
The boys will then travel down to Cornwall to face the Wadebridge Camels, a familiar league-winning opponent, in Round Three on Saturday, September 17 at 3 pm. The following match will see the All Whites playing host to Bridgewater & Albion a week later in Round Three at another 3 pm start.
October begins with an away trip to Chard before a well-deserved break to recoup and refocus. The All Whites will then host a local Crediton team before two successive away games against Wellington and North Petherton to close out October.
Going into November it’s back home to the Westaway Sausages Pitch as the Newton Abbot Rugby Club hosts the Sherborne Pilgrims. Following the match, we’ll see the All Whites go head-to-head with local foes Teignmouth Rugby Club – a hotly anticipated local derby! If the last 2021 match is anything to go, the game is sure to be a gripping match.
The last match of November will see the All Whites host a well-established club, St Austell RFC. As the Christmas season begins, the All Whites will face off with two Cornwall teams, against Truro in Round 12 (away) before hosting the Wadebridge Camels on December 17th.
Following a 3-week break, the new year begins at full pace on January 7th 2023, with a home clash against Chard and an away game against local legends Crediton. To close out January, the Club will host two successive home matches against Wellington and North Petherton.
Round 18 and 19 will begin in February for the All Whites with an away clash against Sherborne before returning to Newton Abbot to host the Home Derby against Teignmouth Rugby Club. The last away match of the season will see the boys back on the bus for a trip over the Tamar Bridge to scrum-down against St Austell.
For the last match of the season, the All Whites will face off against Sidmouth RFC in what’s sure to be a well-attended match to close off the season.
Tickets for the above-mentioned home games will be on sale on the Newton Abbot Rugby Club website and at the gate.
The Spartans will start the first league campaign against a local team the Plymstock Albion Oaks II at Home before travelling down to the Plymouth-based Old Technicians for their first away match of the season. There’ll be no rest for the Spartans as they close out September with a home match against Topsham II and then travel down the A38 again to face off with the Plymouth Argaum Tigers.
In October, Round 5 will see the boys welcome Salcombe Rugby Club before an away face-off against the Tamar Services. The final two matches of October will see the Spartans host two successive home matches against two local neighbours, Totnes and Paignton II.
November will begin with an away fixture ‘to be arranged’ on Saturday 5th of November, before a home Derby against Teignmouth II. November will close with an away match against Dartmouth.
The Spartans will then host the Old Technicians before taking the short trip to Topsham for Round 13. To close out the year, the boys will face off the Plymouth Argaum Tigers. No rest for the wicked!
