Director of Women’s Rugby 

(Volunteer Role)

 

Outline 

The Director of Women’s Rugby (DOWR) is responsible for women’s and girls’ rugby and implementing the overall playing structure. The DOWR’s primary responsibility is to ensure women’s rugby is structured and well managed and fit for the future, the Club’s playing policies are implemented, and the coaching system is effective and meets current practices. 

Key Objectives 

Manage a planned and organised playing structure to provide competitive rugby for all levels within the Club. 

To be proactive in developing the standard of rugby

Set, lead and deliver a 3yr strategy for the future of women’s Rugby 

Key Responsibilities

To determine, modify, and implement the Women’s and Girls Rugby selection policy, including all ages, and to ensure that it complies with RFU regulations. 

To ensure the selection procedure is implemented fairly and effectively through the weekly selection meetings with the team selection committees. 

To ensure that Women’s rugby is fairly represented.

To be the first port of call for female players to resolve playing and selection matters.

To directly ensure that all teams representing  NARFC have equal input from the DoS (Director of Sport) or other surrogate senior Rugby Club officials from the Club. A visually active senior representative will help ensure the #OneClub #OneCommunity project’s promotion – is embedded into our club ethos.  

To ensure they/him/her and other senior members frequently attend junior matches, including training and events. It will be a visual stimulant to aid the club’s #OneClub Ethos.

To represent the playing members in discussions at the Rugby Committee and to raise issues on their behalf.

To represent the Club’s policies as they affect playing members.

To manage matters relating to coaching throughout the Club, when crucial, relaying issues back to the Rugby Committee.

To Direct the Physio Team to ensure the club benefits from efficient injury management.

To coordinate the activities of the Groundsman and Fixtures Secretary into the playing sector.

To manage a budget in alinement with the Rugby Development Plan

Take responsibility for recruiting and retaining players, coaches, and management. 

Develop and maintain links with local schools and colleges.

Provide support and planning to increase both ladies’ player retention from junior to senior rugby.

Provide succession planning to ensure qualified coaches are appointed to all teams and receive the appropriate training required by attending designated coaching courses. 

Chair the Rugby sub-committee so that rugby policy is understood, adequately disseminated to all levels and translated into practical action.

Report to the Executive Committee on rugby matters and recommend improvements/ initiatives that need implementation.

Set behavioural standard policies for all teams and members at the start of the season. 

Liaise with the club coaches, players committee, and team captains on playing facilities, equipment, and gear. 

Be aware of all administrative procedures regarding player registration and eligibility.

Scope of the Job 

The Director of Women’s Rugby is the link from the Rugby Committee to the playing side of the Club. The DoWR and coaching team are responsible for the women’s rugby played at the Club. The DoR will ensure the Coaching team fulfils their responsibilities throughout the Club, including the Junior section. The DoR will act as a link point for those Officers who have roles directly connected with playing rugby.
